Uniforms of the Federal Navy

These are the uniforms as prescribed for the United States Navy during the Federal period. As such, these would be seen in the early stages of the Quasi War with France. The uniforms are, from top to bottom, left to right:
Line Officers
- Midshipman
- Sailing Master
- Lieutenant
- Captain
Staff Officers
- Purser
- Surgeon
- Surgeon's Mate
- Chaplain (No Uniform; Clerical Attire)
United States Marine Corps
- Private
- Corporal
- Sergeant
- Captain

Ha! A Sea Lord? You are too generous, Sir David. I personally like the Revolution unifroms better as well. They were more vibrant and not so much a copy of British garb.

well that too but i think they changed to the blue to distance themselves from the french designs as well. but yeah they were loads better in the revolutionary era! sir david? :D

Indeed! Sir David, a member of the Order of Devia. (Not Bath, but Devia!)

I should whip up a chart of USN garb in 1797. It was then that we had uniforms with a similar cut and ranking system to the ones back in '76, but they were blue and buff. :)

ooooh buff :D - cheshire regiment's colours are red and buff :D (i have a book that has all the info you could possibly need on napoleonic field uniforms btw, but no navy ones :S) i still think i should come to the US and be a revoltionary period british officer :D

5 weeks later - a pretty cove in cornwall

pratt: "oi, squire - look at that!"
squire: "why, tis a man walkin out the sea and no mistake!"
pratt: "i'll go fetch the constable!"
squire: "right, right..."

vyse: "morning gents! good day for a swim, what?"
