Vice-Admiral Lord Horatio Nelson, hero of the Nile, victor of Trafalgar. He is without a doubt the world's most well known sailor and England's greatest naval hero.
Woo hoo! So I finally get to see him.
I have to say, you really did a good job here! Looks just like him. You even got his green shade in there (that he wore to protect his good eye). Neat! One thing though, I'm unfamiliar with the medal he's wearing. Hope you don't mind me asking about it? Probably one I haven't read about or something.
Btw, I like this a lot. You obviously put a lot of research into each of these pieces that you do. Now he's my favourite!
The medal? It is nothing in particular, I merely thought that after years of valorous service that he would have medals, so I conjured up one that looked rather British and put it on. I'm good with the uniforms and ranks, the ships... but awards and medals... I don't really know that stuff. I should look into it.
Heh heh, well, I applaud your creativity! It certainly does look like a British medal. LOL, you've awarded him a British Red Cross award!
Btw, It really isn't that big a deal. You don't notice it until you look closely. Afterall, the first thing you see is the wonderful detail of his uniform/hat etc... In fact, it looks like you've hinted something else when I look at his hat. That side decoration looks like the Chelengk he was awarded. Nice.
By the way, if you ever needed to research into British Naval medals, sometimes you can find examples on the National Maritime Museum's Online Collections site. They have the orders awarded to Nelson on there (it's a good site for drawing reference), among other relics of the age of sail:
