Practice, practice, practice... that's how I did it. I studied ship anatomy and built models, that way I know where every piece is, how it fits, and why. I started drawing these things at about 13 and they were pretty bad, but I've come this far by the age of 17... remember that great things take time. :)

Get seasick, eh? Here! *Holds out a paper packet of seasickness tablets* I hear they're pretty good, everyone used 'em at Normandy back in '44.

seasickness isn't the problem; it's the miles of water all around me and the lack of land beneath. ;)

Ah ha! I get it. :) Well, theres this wonderful thing called a life preserver... won't put solid earth 'neath your feet, but it certainly keeps ya afloat.

fer a while. i mean, what if you're stuck in the middle of the bally ocean, with only a piece of plastic to keep you from a watery grave? if the seagulls don't pick your brains out before you float along to land, you've got a pretty good chance of dying of thirst.

Seagulls in the middle of the ocean? No way, the'd ne'er go more than 50-60 miles out unless there's a ship to supply them.
You know what you have to worry about out there in the middle of nowhere?

There is a dark shape comming from the depths beneath you, it rises quickly, and tall needle-like masts pierce the surface, a dark hull under them. The <iFlying Dutchman... then... foul breath... tentacles and the jaws of...
tha Kraken!

it looks exacly like H.M.S. Victory... :)
fine... but, ther's one small problem: flags on steermast are fluttering not exacly in the same way where ship is going... as a sailor I cannot hold it out... :D
nice details :)

Its a really difficult angle, so I knew things would be awry.
The wind is comming up from the larboard quarter, and I so dearly wanted to put a nice big enisgn on it, so I attempted to put her colors fluttering towards you and curling about a bit. I could understand it on a smaller vessel of higher speed, perhaps the flag can't keep up with snows, sloops, and all that lot... but a first rate? Ah, she ploughs along as a cumbersome, yet extremely deadly ship of the line. (Note the Rear-Admiral's pennant at the mizzen truck... I did this with hopes of Norrington being an Admiral, and he will be in At World's End!!!)

Heh, well, I am also a Norrington fan, but from a different angle. I am a huge Napoleonic Wars/Royal Navy buff. So I am a fan of "Commodore" Norrington and his military exploits. :)
